Lesson on Friday, 24th September 2010

On that day, Izreen's group presented about "Winds of Change in Technological Tools in Science Education".

The presentation focuses on the advancements of tools in science education by introducing several new technologies for better understanding of science concepts.

And that's the first time I heard terms like "Artificial Intelligence" and "Virtual Reality"

Artificial Intelligence

Based on my understanding of the presentation, Artificial Intelligence is a technology in how to make computers to think more like human. In general, artificial intelligence can make computers smarter and make decisions as close as human can do. This technology has been used for a while in the field of computing to solve mathematical problems, building logic gates and simplifying mathematical formulae.

Virtual Reality

Virtual reality is the most exciting aspect of the presentation. This is because virtual reality can simulate real-world environment. Usually virtual reality uses medium such as VR goggles that can be wore. This makes the subject to be 'inside' the virtual reality' world and interact with contents in the simulated world just like in the real world.

In my opinion, these two technologies can be used as important tools in science education as they can help greatly in understanding science concepts. Artificial intelligence can be developed to assist students in learning important formulae and give advice according to students' level. Virtual reality can make learning to be more interactive and immersive.
